Noise Reduction Benefits of Wood Shutters

Outdoor noise can ruin the ambience of your home and prove to be distracting when trying to relax or sleep. The installation of custom wood shutters will greatly help to reduce noise and give you a restful escape from the outside world. In the greater metropolitan Seattle area including ever-growing cities such as Bellevue, Kirkland, Issaquah, Renton, and Tacoma, we are no stranger to the sounds of increased traffic and construction. Shutters offer the perfect solution through both visual privacy and auditory insulation from the noise of the world around us.

Do shutters help to reduce road noise?

The answer is a resounding ‘yes!’ when shutters, such as ours, are made of real solid hardwood. Since our shutters are made to fit perfectly inside your windows, they let very little noise travel through. Shutters are far superior to blinds and curtains when it comes to noise reduction because they shut completely as doors do and wood is significantly more soundproof than most other materials. If you are seeking a beautiful, custom window covering that also offers noise insulation, we are here to help.

Choosing the Right Shutter Louver Size for Your Home

Louver Basics

Whether you are looking for more privacy, better light control, or just a classic interior, plantation shutters have it all. The louvers, or the movable wood blades, in shutters are used to let in or block out light. Simply tilting the louvers will allow you to control how much light enters your room. We offer 5 different louver sizes shown in the photos below.

How to Choose a Louver Size

Which louver size you choose can be determined by the aesthetic you wish to achieve, the level of light control desired, and the size of your windows. Our most popular sizes are the 2-1/2” and 3-1/2” louvers. Choosing one of these louver sizes will allow you to have fewer louvers and therefore let in more light.

Desiring a more traditional look? Smaller louvers let in less light because there are naturally more of them and may be something you may want to consider.
